Paul Martin, Minister of Finance, said wind power is a key renewable energy source in reducing greenhouse gases, which are blamed for the gradual warming of the planet. He announced a 10-year, $260-million program to provide financial incentives for the production of electricity from wind-powered projects. The details, including the eligibility requirements, will be announced later, Mr. Martin said.
Historical wind speed averages
Numbers on map are shown in km/h kilometers per hour.
To convert to miles per hour, multiply by 0.62
To convert to meters per second, multiply by 0.275
10 kilometers per hour = 6.2 miles per hour = 2.75 meters per second
15 kilometers per hour = 9.32 miles per hour = 4.12 meters per second
20 kilometers per hour = 12.4 miles per hour = 5.50 meters per second
The urban turbine is optimized to operate at 10 to 20 km/h and above
